Our values

At Sherburn Hungate we ensure our values underpin everything we do. The ethos of the school is built around three key words. They are Respect, Empower and Believe. These are shared continuously with the children and are built into everything we do. We believe that every child, parent and member of the community should be treated fairly and equally regardless of their age, race, faith or beliefs.

We demonstrate mutual respect for each other and encourage children to discuss and debate topical issues that they may face. We teach children about the rule of law and democracy and how this is reflected in our everyday lives.

A high standard of behaviour is observed at Sherburn Hungate. Children are encouraged to respect themselves, their peers and the adults in the school and beyond. A behaviour ladder system supports us in achieving the highest standards of behaviour.

The students at Sherburn Hungate are encouraged to empower themselves and their peers through everything they do. Students learn how to challenge themselves both inside and outside of the classroom, and have the opportunity to make a difference to the running of the school through the Junior Leadership Team.

Students at Sherburn Hungate are encouraged to believe that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.
